At the door of Q2

Few people believed that among the three rookies of this season, namely Oscar Piastri, Nyck de Vries and Logan Sargeant, it would be the latter who would stand out during the Bahrain Grand Prix night.

The one who finished 4th in F2 last year, knows the pressure at the beginning of this season, with many believing that he owes his place at Williams mostly to his American passport.

After being eliminated in the first phase of qualifications (16th), Sargeant was unhappy about his elimination despite posting the same time as Lando Norris, who made it to Q2. However, he preferred to focus on the positive aspects for the race the next day.

« It was really frustrating to miss out like that, but to be honest, I think I shouldn’t have put us in this position, I had a car that should have taken me to Q2 – I just made a small mistake in sector 1 that cost us today. »

But I think I have laid good foundations on which we can build, the rhythm is there, we just need to start minimizing these mistakes and capitalizing on them.

A solid and promising first race.

Revengeful, Sargeant, from the eighth line, took an excellent start, allowing him to get the upper hand on Guanyu Zhou’s Alfa Romeo.

After four turns, he pulls off a divebomb and overtakes Yuki Tsunoda on the outside, taking advantage of the battle between his teammate, Alex Albon, and Nico Hülkenberg to pass on the outside again at turn eight, and crosses the finish line at the 13th position.

At the end of the 57 laps, he finishes 12th in his first Grand Prix, two positions behind Albon who scores one point. Sargeant gathers a good first experience in Grand Prix, where Williams displayed a good race pace.

“I think I am really satisfied with my first race,” comments Sargeant.

I have the impression that you know everything that is operational, from the start of the race to pit stops, VSC [Virtual Safety Car], everything went smoothly and I am really happy with the pace that Alex and I had today.

I think the team did an incredible job all weekend, just to unlock this pace. We probably didn’t expect to be where we are now compared to the tests, and it’s just a huge testament to the work the team has done. I am very proud of everyone.
