Mike Krack, team manager of Aston Martin, keeps his feet on the ground

If excitement reigns around Aston Martin after this highly successful first Grand Prix, Mike Krack prefers to remain realistic.

Aston Martin is having a remarkable start to the season. After shining during the pre-season tests, Mike Krack’s team proved their good momentum by finishing on the podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix, thanks to Fernando Alonso’s third place.

However, there is no point in getting too excited too quickly. Aston Martin is the pleasant surprise of this early season but will still have to work hard if they want to achieve regular podium finishes. For now, Red Bull remains far ahead, with Max Verstappen finishing this first race with over 38 seconds ahead of the Spanish driver. We must also not forget that without Charles Leclerc’s retirement, Fernando Alonso probably would not have been able to make it to the podium. Mike Krack, the team boss, is well aware of all this.

« We have a good foundation,” he declares to Auto, Motor und Sport.

« But we must stay grounded. The gap with Red Bull was considerably large. We also don’t know to what extent they controlled the race from the beginning.”

It is important to specify that the Bahrain circuit is very abrasive on the tires, amplifying the degradation phenomenon that Ferrari, but also Mercedes, have suffered from. On other circuits, especially in Saudi Arabia, the conditions are different and could lead to a tightening of performances.
