A Formula 1 Grand Prix in the streets of the British capital has often been mentioned, yet the plans never materialized. Now, it’s finally happening. As part of extensive renovations in the Docklands, a historical district located in the east of London, a 5.9km circuit could be built. It is estimated that this project will cost around 250 million pounds, entirely funded by private investors.

Dar and LDN Collective, designers of this project, have recently unveiled their ideas to transform the Royal Docks into a globally recognized destination focused on sports and entertainment. Their innovation revolves around floating modules.

« The floating modules can also be moved and adapted to respond to major events while meeting the changing needs of the local community for years to come, they write on their website.

Ongoing negotiations

Discussions would have already started with Liberty Media, owners of Formula 1, as well as with the city’s mayor. In 2021, the mayor, Sadiq Khan, had indeed expressed his desire to welcome all ten teams.

“We are in talks with Formula 1 and they are really receptive,” he explained. “Lewis Hamilton does our nation and the sport proud, and it would be fantastic to have a Grand Prix in the capital, to have Silverstone and London on the calendar.”

The urban planners responsible for the project claim that the plans have just started and hope to submit them for validation within a year.

« Once we have obtained planning consent with favorable wind, we will be able to build it within 24 months,” said Max Farrell, head of LDN Collective, to The Times.

So really, I think that in the best case scenario, it is possible to have a Grand Prix of London here in August 2026. If everyone gets involved, it would be feasible.
