At the arrival of the first race of the season, Lewis Hamilton finishes fifth, far behind the winner, Max Verstappen. His car was also powerless against Fernando Alonso’s Aston Martin. Bitter, the British driver did not hesitate to openly criticize his team.

He then reproached them for not having been listened to about the development of the W14, before openly stating that his team had done things wrong: “They didn’t do things well this time, they didn’t do things well last year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t do things well in the future,” declared the driver.

Hamilton acknowledges inappropriate words

In a press conference on the eve of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton admitted that his words may not have been appropriate. With hindsight, I think I may not have used the best choice of words, he confesses.

Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion reassures for the rest of the season, asserting his desire to make things happen: “We all need a kick. What is important is that we continue to communicate, to stand together […] We now need to start making bold decisions in order to narrow the gap.”

In recent times, rumors have emerged regarding a possible departure of Hamilton, whose contract expires at the end of the year. But the Mercedes driver has made it clear about this matter: “I still believe 100% in this team, and it’s my family, and I’ve been here for a long time, so I have no intention of going elsewhere.” As for an extension, he reveals to Sky Sports: “We are in talks.”
