George Russell considers Jeddah as “one of my best F1 weekends”
Even though he ultimately didn't make it to the podium, George Russell is satisfied with his weekend in Saudi Arabia.

Author of a very impressive performance in qualifying, George Russell started the race in third position and he did not rest on his laurels. The Mercedes driver engaged in several battles, including one with his teammate Lewis Hamilton, from which he emerged victorious.
He then confirmed this good pace by completing the fifty laps in fourth place, 5.138 seconds behind Fernando Alonso. Although he briefly held the third position following the penalty of the Spaniard and participated in the post-podium press conference, the decision was ultimately reversed and Russell regained his initial place.
« It was a bit chaotic at times on the radio, trying to understand what was happening with these five-second penalties or not. But it was fun. I pushed hard at the end to try to get within five seconds of Fernando, just in case, but I think he had it well under control,” he explains.
After all the chaos surrounding the penalty, the British driver is not disappointed with his result, on the contrary, he admits to having done better than expected and is surprised to have finished ahead of the Ferraris and so close to Aston Martin.
« P4 for me, it’s probably one of my best weekends in F1. I am simply satisfied with the result, because I believe we have exceeded the potential of the car this weekend. »
« We knew that I would be close, but we thought that we were lagging behind Aston, behind Ferrari,” he adds.
But it is clear that we have made some progress compared to Bahrain. We know that we still have a long way to go, but we are in an interesting phase as a team right now. We are making some changes at the moment to try to close the gap with Red Bull and I hope we won’t have to wait too long before we take a step forward.
