On March 17th, Angela Cullen surprised everyone by announcing her departure from Formula 1 and consequently her separation from Lewis Hamilton as his physiotherapist after seven years of loyal service. The seven-time world champion has explained the reasons behind her departure.

For seven seasons, Angela Cullen was part of the very exclusive circle of Lewis Hamilton, and a strong relationship was forged between the two. When interviewed by Sky Sports, Hamilton reflected on this surprising departure, justifying the difficulty of his role, being far from his loved ones for long months. Hamilton underlines the challenge of such a role: “It’s an incredibly difficult role for anyone in these positions,” he asserts, adding that such a role involves numerous personal sacrifices: “There’s a lot of travel and a lot of time away from your family, and you become incredibly close to each other,” emphasizes the Briton.

Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion claims to maintain an excellent relationship with his now former physiotherapist: “We talk and exchange messages almost every day. We will always go skydiving together and will always be a part of each other’s lives. We are stuck with each other, unfortunately or fortunately,” affirms Hamilton. Over the course of seven years, Angela Cullen and Lewis Hamilton have experienced both good and bad times that have bonded them: “We have gone through tough moments, so I am grateful that our relationship is as good as it is, and I think we have probably had one of the longest relationships in the sport, so incredibly grateful for her and I love her dearly,” concludes the Mercedes driver.
