Alonso not surprised by Mercedes’ result
At the end of the qualifications, Fernando Alonso was not surprised by the performance of the Mercedes. He even counts on them to keep Verstappen at the front of the race.

Good, but nothing more. That’s how we could describe Alonso’s feeling after Mercedes’ performance in qualifying. The Spaniard is not further surprised by such a result. The Aston Martin driver will start fourth, with the Mercedes cars in his sights.
A surprise for everyone, except for Alonso. The double world champion downplays the result of the Mercedes, who will start second and third on the grid, just ahead of him. The Spaniard has always considered them very fast on track: “I think they were already very fast in Jeddah, and they were fast in FP2, and they are still fast,” the Spaniard tempers.
« If you read their comments, it seems like they have a car that is out of Q3, but it’s not so bad! »
Unlikely allies?
With such a strong performance from Mercedes, Fernando Alonso could find unexpected allies to slow down Max Verstappen, provided that Mercedes has a good start. In that case, we can expect a boring race. Let’s see if Mercedes can at least have a good start and somehow stop Max. Otherwise, it will be a dull race for him.
For him, the winner of the race will be the one who has the best pace and the best tire management: « In terms of strategy and race preparation, I think nobody is completely ready yet, that tomorrow’s race is where we will find out who has the best pace and the best management », concludes the Spaniard.
