Horner doesn’t see Verstappen doing “like Alonso and still racing at 41 or 42 years old”

While Max Verstappen has a contract with the Red Bull team until 2028, Christian Horner has denied all rumors of his driver's premature departure for retirement.

While he has just insisted that his technical director, Adrian Newey, will stay with Red Bull for many years, Christian Horner also wanted to clarify things regarding the future of his driver, Max Verstappen, in F1.

The latter recently expressed discontent about the direction taken by the premier category for several years, notably regarding the changes in weekend formats, the introduction of Sprint races, which, according to the Dutchman, do not correspond to the essence of the sport.

Committed to Red Bull until 2028, could the 25-year-old driver consider an early retirement?

Max is his own man, and he is very, very strong in his opinions and in his vision of what he wants to do with his life, emphasized Horner.

I don’t see him doing like Fernando Alonso, driving until 41 or 42 years old, maybe not in Formula 1, but racing is his passion.

« If he’s not racing on a track right now, he’s racing in the virtual world, driving GT cars for fun, and his passion is simply to drive and race, and as long as that burns within him, he will continue moving forward. »

« But how long it takes to hit you in the gut, it is each individual’s own journey, they have to discover it for themselves. »

Horner also indicated that he believes that 23 races is a brutal and difficult schedule.

« It’s difficult for the pilots, it’s even more difficult for the mechanics who travel at the beginning of the week and come back on Monday after a race. »

« It’s a brutal calendar that ends up wreaking havoc. »
