In two weeks, the brand new women’s category, the F1 Academy, will begin its very first season in its history on the Spielberg track in Austria. While waiting for the first tests, which took place on the Catalunya circuit in Spain and allowed the young women to gain experience with their single-seaters developed by Tattus, equipped with a 174 hp turbocharged four-cylinder Autotecnica engine running at 5,500 rpm.

On the seven scheduled stages of the 2023 calendar, 21 races are planned for the 15 women distributed among the five teams that make up this lineup. In addition to Spielberg, the F1 Academy will visit the circuits of Valencia, Barcelona, Zandvoort, Monza, Le Castellet, and Austin this season.

Only in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas will the category, led by Susie Wolff, evolve alongside Formula 1. Next year, the CEO of Formula One Management (FOM) confirmed that more races will be coordinated with the top category.

We haven’t started the (2023 F1 Academy) season on the track yet, but I can confirm that next year, the F1 Academy will be on race weekends with Formula 1, confirms the CEO of the FOM.

Of course, not everywhere, but it will be part of the promotion plan of the F1 Academy… it is something that really matters to us, and hopefully will be the right boost for the season to gain momentum; of course, we have just started.

He continues: « Formula 1 has taken the initiative to try to do something, invest, and believe that by drawing attention to this project, we can, I hope, as soon as possible, have a girl, a woman, in F1. This is our hope and why we are investing a lot. »
