Two years after the implementation of the budget cap, to allow for performance convergence among the teams composing the F1 grid, all the racing teams were required to provide their budgets for the previous season on March 31st.

While the administration in charge at the FIA for cost caps examines each case, the Formula One Management boss, Stefano Domenicali, doesn’t hide his concern about the possibility of facing a new financial scandal. “I am more than nervous,” attests the president of the FOM.

« I am certain that everyone now understands the consequences of an offense, and I fully agree that the attention paid to this issue will be crucial. »

I think it’s a point of attention primarily for credibility and to verify if everyone respects this rule, but it needs to be done sooner rather than later.

Sanction more quickly

After exceeding the 2021 budget cap, Red Bull will only truly experience the effects of their conviction next year. Three years between the infringement, the conviction, and finally the repercussions is too long, as noted by Domenicali.

« We are discussing, and it is on the side of the FIA, to ensure that the control and certification will be carried out much earlier because the effect, if some teams exceed it, must be done in a proper manner in as short a time as possible to be more credible. »

« We see other sports tackling financial regulation with, in my opinion, too long of a reaction time – and that’s not a good thing. »
