The Monaco Grand Prix threatened by power cuts
RTL revealed yesterday that the Monte Carlo Grand Prix would be threatened by demonstrations against pension reform in France. The electrical network of the circuit would be targeted.

It is unexpected news revealed yesterday by RTL, the Monaco Grand Prix is part of the events targeted by the CGT as part of their fight against pension reform.
« In May, do as you please! The Cannes Film Festival, the Monaco Grand Prix, the Roland-Garros tournament, the Avignon Festival could end up in the dark! We won’t give up! ». That’s the clear message addressed to the Head of State in a statement by the French union.
The movement has already started, as the CGT claimed responsibility for power cuts that recently occurred at Montpellier airport during a visit by Emmanuel Macron to the capital of Hérault.
The law pushing the retirement age from 62 to 64 years old was promulgated on April 14th and Emmanuel Macron subsequently promised 100 days to appease the country. The response from the CGT Energy was not long in coming, a scathing response: Macron promised 100 days to appease, we promise him 100 days of actions and anger!
The action during the Grand Prix de Monaco could be unique as the principality is not part of France. Now it remains to be seen if the actions materialize. The Cannes Film Festival, another threatened event, will take place before. The threat surrounding the Monaco Grand Prix will escalate if any disruptions occur there.
For the time being, neither Formula 1 nor the FIA have spoken on the subject. However, it should be noted that a backup electric power supply system is in place at all Grand Prix events to address these eventualities.
