During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Alfa Romeo once again had a tough weekend. With Guanyu Zhou retiring and Valtteri Bottas finishing in 18th place, the team remains stuck at six points in the championship, but is only two points behind Alpine in sixth place.

During the first race weekends, the Italian team had managed to place one of its drivers in the top ten, but without particularly convincing. After the disappointment in Azerbaijan, Bottas rightly demands improvements to his car.

« We need to make quick improvements on the car’s performance,” said the former Mercedes driver. « We must consider all options, including the one we are on this week,” he continued. Disappointing overall performances for Lewis Hamilton’s former teammate, who will try to bounce back in Miami to regain a place in the midfield race.

The driver is not the only one in his team to notice a performance decline. The representative of his team, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, also delivered a pessimistic speech about the season: « Currently, with our performances, achieving a top 10 position is very difficult, » the Italian confessed before the Miami Grand Prix. There is a need for performance to come quickly before being left behind in the championship.

He still insisted on qualifying his statements: “We must remain calm. We must not lose focus on our objective and on what we have to do. The season is still long. We have the opportunity to take a new direction,” he reminded.

Guanyu Zhou makes the same observation: « We expected more from these first races, for sure, but we are determined to continue and give our all to get back to where we should be. » Alfa Romeo’s goal is therefore higher.

A speech that the Finnish driver also delivered, shows the direction his team wants to take: “We are more motivated than ever. It may seem difficult at the moment, but there are still many races left. We want to do our best.” Alfa Romeo is therefore looking towards the future to bounce back and aim for top tens as they were able to do last year.
