The British driver explained that this gesture is a response to the vote on the law regarding parental rights to education.

Lewis Hamilton will wear a rainbow-colored helmet at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix in response to the signing of the Parental Rights in Education Act by the Governor of Florida.

The governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis, signed the bill at the end of March that prevents any “discussion or instruction” on “sexual orientation” or “gender identity” in schools. « I have read some of the decisions that have been made by the government here, and I do not agree with it, and I do not support it,” Hamilton told the media.

These decisions are not made by the residents of Miami, but by the members of the government, and that’s the problem. I continue to support the LGBTQ community, and I will be wearing the rainbow flag on my helmet this weekend. I just want to continue supporting the community here and letting them know that I stand with them, and I hope they will continue to fight against this.

The seven-time world champion has already spoken out on various equality issues and has worn race helmets adorned with the colors of the rainbow, notably during the 2021 race in Qatar, in support of minorities.
