Victor Martins will be driving the Alpine F1 car in Monza
On Monday and Tuesday, Alpine will be testing at Monza. On the first day of testing, the French team gave Victor Martins, a member of their academy, a chance. It was an opportunity for him to drive in Formula 1 for the first time.
F3 Champion in 2022, Victor Martins will make his Formula 1 debut in a test at Monza this Monday. As a member of the Alpine Academy, the Frenchman will drive the A521, the French team’s 2021 car, which won the Hungarian Grand Prix that same year.
On Monday, May 8th, the F2 driver will get behind the wheel of the Alpine for a day of testing. This will be an opportunity for him to gain experience, which will obviously be useful at the beginning of his career. Victor Martins is thrilled to have this opportunity in a Formula 1 car: “I’m super excited to have my first glimpse of a Formula 1 car at Monza on Monday,” the driver revealed. After this day, the Frenchman will travel to Barcelona for a testing session in Formula 2. On Tuesday, it will be Jack Doohan, also an F2 driver, who will drive the A521.

Alpine Academy driver since 2017, Victor Martins will be working directly with the Formula 1 team for the first time. This will be the first time that I will be working closely with the Alpine team on a track and having my first opportunity in an F1,” said the F3 champion. Despite finishing fifteenth in the F2 championship, Victor Martins has shown that he has the pace of the fastest drivers in his category and has often been unlucky.
This opportunity in F1 will allow him to showcase his level and adaptation in the premier category, as well as to be able to compare himself to Jack Doohan who will be driving the next day. His objective is, of course, to be as fast as possible: « I aim to get a lot of track time and make the most of it. I want to get on the right track and maximize the opportunity to learn as much as possible ». It’s an opportunity for him to perform but also to bring back the experience of being around professionals from the Alpine team to bounce back in Formula 2.
