The seven-time world champion crossed the finish line in sixth position at the checkered flag in Miami, after a much more enjoyable day than Saturday, when he was eliminated in Q2.

The W14 proved to be much more competitive over a race distance. Hamilton slowly but surely made his way up the rankings as the race progressed – especially when the fuel load decreased and he switched to a set of medium tires.

Hamilton also played the team game by letting George Russell overtake him in the middle of the race, as the latter was aiming for a better points position after starting from sixth place on the grid.

After the race, the seven-time world champion declared that he felt the car come alive under his feet as the laps went by. “I’m not really sure about the strategy, I don’t know if it was optimal or if it could have been worse,” he said. “But in the end, I was able to start making progress, and once I made the pit stop and switched to the mediums, that’s when I could really start pushing. The car became a bit more lively in the middle of the race, and I think going from 13th to 6th place is a good thing.”

« So a big thank you to the team this weekend for keeping their heads down and continuing to push even though we’re not where we want to be. The team’s morale is still high. » After 57 laps, Lewis Hamilton finished 6th and his teammate George Russell finished 4th.
