Pirelli will introduce new tire specifications this year
The sole tire supplier of Formula 1 is about to modify the specifications of its tires starting from the British Grand Prix.

Pirelli plans to introduce a new specification of Formula 1 tires starting from the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Every season, teams provide a projection of their expected performance levels for the following year’s championship, and then Pirelli designs a tire capable of meeting these demands and specifications.
However, the expected performance increase in 2023 was more significant than initially anticipated, as evidenced by the pole position time in Miami (1:26.841), nearly two seconds faster than in 2022, despite the increase in ride heights limiting the ground effect. As a result, this imposed greater constraints on the tires.
Pirelli is ready to introduce reinforced tires capable of handling higher loads than expected at Silverstone and for the rest of the 2023 season. The sole tire supplier for F1 is making these changes ahead of the Silverstone race, which traditionally features some of the highest tire loads of the season, with similar Grand Prix races in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Japan, all in the second half of the season. It is understood that this tire specification will be used in the 2024 season.
The decision must be approved by the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC), but this step is merely a formality.
