Stefano Domenicali welcomes the Aston Martin-Honda partnership
The Formula 1 boss welcomed this "exciting" partnership between the two entities. Consequently, there could be six engine manufacturers on the grid in 2026.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1, praised the “exciting” partnership between Aston Martin and Honda as proof of the appeal of motorsport to major car manufacturers.
On Wednesday night, Honda announced during a press conference their commitment in Formula 1 as the official power unit supplier for Aston Martin starting in 2026.
“This is excellent news for Formula 1 that Honda is partnering with Aston Martin to provide power units from 2026,” said Domenicali. “This is further proof that our global platform and growth offer brands tremendous potential, and it also shows that our project to transition to sustainable fuels in 2026 is the right approach to provide the automotive world with alternative solutions to decarbonize the planet.”
We can all see Aston Martin’s incredible commitment to our sport, and we are excited to see this exciting partnership in action, and I would like to congratulate both parties on this excellent news.
This announcement means that F1 should have at least six major engine manufacturers on the starting grid in 2026, with the current trio of Mercedes, Ferrari, and Renault being joined by Audi (Sauber), and Ford, who are entering into a partnership with Red Bull and AlphaTauri.
It is also possible that General Motors will be present in F1 by then, as the Cadillac brand of the American company has aligned itself with a participation project by the Andretti organization.
