Third in FP1 and then sixth in FP2, Lewis Hamilton had a good start to his Monaco weekend. On board a car with numerous upgrades, the seven-time world champion felt comfortable and praised the work done by his team.

I really had a great day. I enjoyed driving today. I must say a big, big thank you to everyone at the factory. Designing and building a car is not an easy thing to do. Everyone has dedicated so much time, so many hours of hard work to get us to where we are today. I’m glad to bring the car back in one piece for them, and we have collected a lot of data.

Delving further into the developments made to the W14, Hamilton believes that the evolution has only just begun: “This isn’t the best place to test improvements, but the car seems to be behaving well. It’s a shame we didn’t finish the session higher as I had hoped. However, I definitely felt the improvements, and I am grateful to the team for that. Now we need to look at where we can extract performance from the car. We now have a solid foundation to build upon.”

Hamilton therefore takes the positive from this first day behind the wheel of his “new” Mercedes. Progress that still needs to be confirmed for the rest of the weekend and especially in Barcelona next week, a more significant track to test new developments.
