According to Christian Horner, there is finally a challenge for Red Bull in Monaco

While the first races were largely won by Red Bull, Monaco is expected to offer a challenge to the Austrian team, which is not yet fully prepared in the principality.

The first practice sessions showed that Red Bull was not alone this weekend, at least not for now. In a circuit where performance and driver confidence play a role, the tables could be turned in preparation for qualifying on Saturday.

For Horner, a highly contested weekend

It might be one of the Grand Prix during the year where Red Bull can be challenged, and yesterday’s day showed it. In the Friday press conference, Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner also acknowledged this competition.

You can see that there are quite a few cars in the mix. Ferrari seems strong, as we expected. Fernando, once again, is very motivated for the weekend. The Mercedes seems competitive. So I think it will be close. I mean, Monaco is unlike any other circuit. Therefore, it is a unique challenge.

A not 100% Red Bull

The unique Monaco circuit, narrow and between the rails, presents an additional challenge to the teams, and it seems less suitable for Red Bull, who are unable to fully exploit their car.

« I think that the strengths of our car are not highlighted here in the slow corners of the circuit. I believe that it is rather in the medium or high-speed corners that the car has truly excelled this year. But it’s the same challenge for everyone,» stated Horner in a press conference.

Pilots also facing difficulties

During the first practice session, we noticed a slightly irritated Max Verstappen with his car, making some gestures of frustration. In the second session, things seemed to be going better for the double world champion and his teammate, although some adjustments are still needed.

« Neither of the two drivers were particularly satisfied with the car settings. I think that regarding the settings, we will fine-tune them a bit for the next session, and then we’ll see how the circuit adapts and also alters the balance of the car, said the Team Principal of Red Bull.

Bluff or real difficulties for Red Bull? The qualifications will set the tone. Christian Horner still appears certain that the challenge will be much bigger this weekend.
