Toto Wolff regrets the towing of Hamilton’s W14 through the air
Striking image of Saturday in Monaco, the head of the German team did not appreciate the fact that the new Mercedes was in full view of all the cameras in the sky of Monaco.

Mercedes arrived in the Principality with numerous improvements. New bodywork, new front suspensions, a new floor… Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had a lot of work to do in Monaco to test all of these improvements.
However, at the end of the third free practice session on Saturday morning, probably wanting to push the limits with his new machine, the seven-time world champion crashed into the barrier at Mirabeau corner. In order to clear the track as quickly as possible, the Monaco marshals, rightfully known as the most reactive in the world, used a crane, suspending the black Mercedes in the air for a few moments.
Amazing scene but not exceptional in the Principality, the W14 version B allowed itself to be photographed from all angles, including its new floor, a secret well kept by the engineers. The team boss of Mercedes, Toto Wolff, did not like the situation at all.
The one who operated the crane must have certainly worked at Cirque du Soleil before. I don’t understand. The car was on the road. They could have put it on a truck instead of showing it to everyone.
When questioned about the similar towing of Sergio Pérez’s Red Bull during qualifying, the Austrian executive took the opportunity to still praise the work of the commissioners in Monaco.
Did Checo’s car experience the same thing? I didn’t see that. So they are all members of Cirque du Soleil! I don’t want to blame them. Everyone is doing their best, and I don’t want to be the Team Principal who criticizes people for doing their job.
The advanced Mercedes cars of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will start fifth and eighth respectively in the Grand Prix this afternoon.
