Ari Vatanen: “Monaco is a unique gathering that makes people dream”
Just a few hours before the start of the 80th edition of the Monaco Grand Prix, the rally and Dakar legend gave a few words to Motors Inside.

World rally champion and four-time Dakar winner, Ari Vatanen, revealed some secrets to Motors Inside about what makes this event in the Principality so special.
How would you explain the atmosphere in Monaco during the Grand Prix or the Monte Carlo Rally?
« Everything that is rare in life makes people dream. Monaco is unique. The atmosphere is unique. If someone comes to you and says, «We’re going to build a Formula 1 track here,» you would tell them to go see a doctor, that they’re not well in their head. Yet, the track is there. The race has always been there. And that’s what makes Monaco so special. In life, we need madness. That’s what makes humanity dream. »
Do you believe that the Grand Prix allows people to escape from their daily lives?
I repeat, it’s a unique event. It nourishes everyone’s dreams. That’s the purpose of a sport, to entertain and bring a smile to people’s faces. We also find that in rallying.
