George Russell: “It’s more than I could have imagined”
Starting 12th on the grid, George Russell made a great comeback to cross the finish line in 3rd position. He secured his first podium of the season.
It wasn’t an easy win for the British driver! Starting 12th due to his performance in yesterday’s qualifications, George Russell managed to finish on the last step of the podium, much to everyone’s surprise. « A bit surprised, yes. I thank the team who gave me a really good car today. Starting 12th and finishing third is more than I could have imagined. »
In addition to his strategic work to help his teammate, Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes driver was able to stand out and complete his team’s perfect weekend. He said he feels more comfortable behind the wheel thanks to the brand-new evolutions of the W14. « It’s better. I was impressed to see how much speed we were gaining compared to Aston Martin and Ferrari. I am very happy to reach this podium. »
