And what if there was a second Grand Prix canceled this year? Questions have been raised regarding the Canadian Grand Prix. Currently, the country is affected by forest fires spreading at a rapid pace.

More than 400 fires have occurred in Canada, with 150 in Quebec alone, resulting in dangerous atmospheric conditions in major cities across Canada and in some parts of North America.

The smoke particularly reached the city of New York, located over 800 kilometers away. The Big Apple has been covered in an orange haze of smoke over the past 48 hours and has experienced the worst pollution among all major cities.

As a result, millions of people have been asked to wear N95 masks (which filter the air) outside due to its poor quality. Major League Baseball games have also been postponed in New York and Philadelphia on Wednesday night to Thursday.

The forecasted rain could mitigate the risks

According to Environment Canada, the conditions deteriorated above Toronto on Thursday, June 8th, prompting the agency to issue a warning to stay near the area.

For now, there is no indication that the Canadian Grand Prix is threatened. The event takes place at the Gilles Villeneuve circuit in Montreal, just over 200 kilometers away from the fires, from June 16th to 18th.

The weather forecast also predicts rain for the next seven days, which should alleviate the threat hanging over the event.
