For Peter Windsor, Fernando Alonso will no longer play the role of the model teammate

Peter Windsor is certain that Fernando Alonso will not be as accommodating with Lance Stroll if the latter manages to overtake him on the track legitimately.

Fernando Alonso seems to have transformed himself, as Max Verstappen stated, into a coach for his teammate Lance Stroll this season. The two-time world champion has not only given him some advice during the early Grand Prix races, but has even offered him his brake balance setup. The Spanish driver explains that he is doing this because he believes Lance Stroll has the potential to become the number one driver for the Aston Martin team in the future.

Some experts have pointed out that he is no longer the Fernando Alonso of before, even though the Spaniard has insisted that he has always had a team spirit.

A behavior that raises questions at the Spanish GP

After seven races this season, Alonso has outperformed his teammate in qualifying and in the race six times. Stroll, on the other hand, managed to surpass the Spaniard only in the last Grand Prix, thanks to the damaged floor on the Aston Martin number 14.

However, even with a car that couldn’t unleash 100% of its capabilities, the Asturian Bull had come within less than a second of the Canadian in the final laps of the Spanish GP. However, he decided not to attack his teammate. A decision that surprised many.

According to former Ferrari and Williams team director, Peter Windsor, it’s only a matter of time before the character of the perfect teammate implodes.

« At the moment, Fernando is ridiculously excessive when it comes to helping Lance Stroll, partly because Lance is struggling but also because he knows it allows him to have relationships with Lance’s father, he said on his YouTube channel. « You can see it from miles away. Wait until the day Lance Stroll surpasses Fernando Alonso [on merit], we’ll see if Fernando will be kind to Lance that day. »

Windsor advises Stroll not to mess up in the next two Grand Prix

The 71-year-old man also spoke about Stroll’s future within the team because even though his father, Lawrence, owns Aston Martin, his results compared to Alonso’s are causing many people to wonder if he still deserves a driver’s seat.

Lance Stroll still hasn’t stepped on a podium this season, while Alonso, in the meantime, has five champagne celebrations under his belt. Alonso has also scored nearly three times as many points as the Canadian (99 against 38).

Windsor believes that the next two races, including the one in Canada, the driver’s home country, and the one in Spielberg, Austria, could be crucial for Stroll’s future.

“I think we could see Aston do something about it because I don’t see how Lawrence is going to let the situation drag on for too long,” he responded. “My theory, and I repeat that it’s just a theory, is that they will change Stroll’s settings and see how he performs with less effort at the rear of the car, which Fernando likes but Lance does not.”

For me, it is interesting to note that as soon as Alonso arrived, even though the car is better than last year, Stroll has lost his way. And this can only be due to the adjustments Alonso wanted on his car. This is my reasoning. Let’s wait and see what happens in the next two races.
