Nyck de Vries and Guanyu Zhou have a new gearbox
The two drivers were provided with new gearboxes for their cars during the free practice sessions.
The FIA announced that Nyck de Vries and Guanyu Zhou had benefited from new gearboxes, respectively in their AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo, during the Friday free practice sessions.
These new components were assembled on the outside of the FIA’s ERS allocation, which measures and limits the energy capacity of energy storage systems. The ERS represents the amount of energy that the system is allowed to provide during a given period.
The drivers, however, do not incur any penalties since these additions were made within the limits of the exceptions allowed by the FIA.
For the Dutch, this is the second of the four opportunities allowed by Article 29.3(g) of the Formula 1 sporting regulations for the Scuderia AlphaTauri team.
For the Chinese, the grip tightens as it is already the third of the four authorized opportunities by this same article for Alfa Romeo.
