The Top 10 of the starting grid for the eighth round of the season has been shaken up following the penalties received by Nico Hülkenberg and Carlos Sainz.

Qualified in a fantastic second place, the German driver was found guilty of not sufficiently slowing down under a red flag during the qualifying session. The stewards thus imposed a three-place penalty on him, which pushes the Haas number 27 back to fifth place.

The German will start behind Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso, and the two Mercedes. The two black cars will dominate the second row, offering a great opportunity to climb onto the podium.

Same punishment for Carlos Sainz.

After a dangerous maneuver before the final chicane, the Ferrari driver also receives a three-place penalty. At the end of Q1, while several drivers were trying to improve their time, the Spaniard did not move aside from the racing line as Pierre Gasly came charging behind him. The maneuver was deemed dangerous and unsportsmanlike by the Alpine driver, who failed to advance from Q1, mainly due to this situation.

Qualified eighth, Carlos Sainz will therefore start 11th, one position behind his teammate Charles Leclerc who takes advantage of it to enter the Top 10.
