Impressive on board his Alpine since the beginning of the weekend, Pierre Gasly was greatly hindered by Carlos Sainz, which prevented him from reaching Q2. He expresses his disappointment in an interview with Canal+.

Pierre Gasly disgusted

When everything seems to be going well for Alpine, an event always comes to disrupt the French team’s weekend. This time, it was Carlos Sainz’s poor positioning on the track that greatly marred Pierre Gasly’s weekend.

“I am disgusted. Absolutely disgusted. What happened in front of me with Carlos was extremely dangerous. It’s not the first time it has happened with him, but I’m just completely disgusted. It was a stage that could have easily put us in the top 6, it went well the whole weekend, and now it ruins our qualification, so right now I am sickened,” he declared.

A Penalty That Will Change Nothing

Despite Carlos Sainz’s penalty, Gasly remains in 17th place. The penalty will not give him a better position on the grid.

« Unfortunately, the penalty will not give us the position we should have had on the starting grid. Honestly, I don’t care. It’s just extremely dangerous. I just don’t understand the purpose of this behavior on the track. It could have been much worse if I had tried to take that turn. »

Gasly frustrated by this incident

For his first season at Alpine, Gasly hopes to score as many points as possible and impress. In an interview zone, he reminds that he and his team cannot control all the events.

« What matters to me is performance. What I want is to be in the lead, what I want is to score points, to have good results. For that, we need to have good qualifications. Unfortunately, unsportsmanlike behavior is out of our control, he said to Canal+ microphone.

A glimmer of hope for the Grand Prix

With the good rhythm shown in practice sessions, Pierre Gasly hopes to make up ground and bring points for Alpine. Without appearing too optimistic, he hopes to recover from this rough patch tonight.

« We will have to save what we can, but with the performance we showed throughout the weekend, there was clearly a Q3 to be achieved. »

He will start 15th following the penalties of Stroll and Tsunoda.
