Before the start of this Grand Prix, nothing was decided. With Alonso in second place on the grid and the Mercedes lurking, the victory of Max Verstappen and Red Bull was not fully assured. However, the Dutchman did not really encounter any difficulties. Even after hitting a bird and going off track at turns 8 and 9, he comfortably imposed himself, although with reduced gaps. His 41st victory allows him to put his name alongside the Brazilian legend Ayrton Senna.

Verstappen proud of his journey

“I hate comparing generations,” he declared after the race. “It’s a childhood dream that I didn’t even consider,” he added. “For my part, all I can say is that when I was little and driving go-karts, I dreamt of being a Formula 1 driver, and I would have never imagined winning 41 Grand Prix races.”

On par with a sports legend

« So, of course, being equal with Ayrton is something incredible, I am proud of that », declared the Dutch.

But Max Verstappen doesn’t want to stop at this record, he wants more. And with a high-performing car like his, it’s hard to argue against him. This record pushes him to aim higher, with all the ambition we know he has. « But of course, I hope it doesn’t stop there. I hope we can continue winning other races. »

Finally, he is making fun of this 41st victory, also showing his attachment to the Red Bull family. « I have won 41 out of Red Bull’s 100 victories, so maybe we will talk about a new contract with that. »

Meet us in Austria, on the lands of Red Bull, where Max Verstappen will have even more opportunities to write his story.
