Hamilton wishes for a “super tight” battle at the top of the rankings
Lewis Hamilton wishes to have much closer battles with Verstappen, Alonso, and himself in order to be back together on the podium.

Lewis Hamilton has climbed onto the podium for the second time in two races. In Canada, the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion shared the podium with Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso, both double World Champions.
“It is a privilege to be here to compete against these two who have accomplished incredible things in their careers,” declared the British driver in the post-race press conference. “It’s a quite emblematic top three. I don’t know if there has been a top three like this before. I don’t think there has been,” continued the pilot.
Despite a second place in Spain and a third place last weekend on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, number 44 wishes for more podium moments with the Dutchman and the Spaniard: But I hope there will be more. As Fernando said, there is a lot of respect between us because we were able to race so closely and trust each other.
But in order to fight on equal terms with Red Bull and Aston Martin, we need to get closer to the performance of both teams. I really hope that at some point, our cars will be more consistent and that we will have much more exciting races in the future. It would be really great to see the three of us in a very tight battle,” explains the driver.
Lewis Hamilton can rely on the engineers of the Mercedes-Benz team, who have already proven last year that they can transform a mid-field car into a regular podium contender. This year, the gap to close is smaller than in 2022. It would therefore not be surprising to see the Silver Arrows gradually catching up to the Red Bulls towards the end of the season to offer them some competition. With only a 15-point difference between Fernando Alonso and Hamilton, the battle for third position in the championship between the two former teammates promises to be a captivating episode of this 2023 season.
