The Austrian Grand Prix weekend threatened by showers

Friday is the start of the first day of practice for Formula 1. The weather conditions forecasted in Spielberg are not very good. Rain is expected on the track for both Friday and Saturday. According to the weather, only the free practice session scheduled at 1:30 PM might escape the rain.

For the qualification of the main race, the single-seaters could do timed laps on intermediate tires. There will be a high risk of rain on the track during the race. The weather forecast predicts a 90% chance of rain at the Red Bull Ring. For the sessions this Friday, temperatures are expected to be around 23°C.

The saved race ?

For this new sprint race format, Saturday will be exclusively reserved for the small race. The weather will once again be very inclement, as rain is expected to be present during the sprint qualification at noon, with a 75% chance of precipitation. The temperature at the Austrian stage of the World Championship will be cool, with only 18°C announced in Spielberg.

The sprint race should also take place in the rain. The start, which will be given at 4:30 pm, should also be done on intermediate tires. Rain is forecasted to be 70% on the track and is not expected to stop until around 8 pm. For this sprint race, the tires will also need to be warmed up, as the temperature during the race is expected to be only 19°C.

On Sunday for the actual race, the weather is expected to be slightly milder. The chance of rain during the race should be a maximum of 40%. As for the temperature, the thermometer will be higher than the previous day, with 23°C forecasted during the Grand Prix.
