Max Verstappen once again dominated the competition this weekend during the Austrian Grand Prix. The Dutch driver achieved his 42nd career victory, surpassing the legendary Ayrton Senna in the number of races won.

Spielberg is the 7th victory of the double reigning world champion in 10 championship rounds (including nine races, with the cancellation of Imola). Such domination allowed the Dutch driver to treat himself to a free pit stop to go for the fastest lap of the race at the very end of the Grand Prix.

« I wanted us to succeed in doing something good. We managed to not stop at the pits during the virtual safety car. It’s a strategy that worked well, it allowed us to gain an advantage. I don’t really like thinking about rankings. I work with the team. Some weekends can be complicated, but everything worked well this weekend,” said the Red Bull driver at the end of the Grand Prix.

For the number 1 of the Austrian team, this weekend was much better than their race weekend in Canada where their opponents finished only nine seconds behind the two-time world champion.

« For me, Montreal has not been fantastic on our side of the race. Here, I think we have done very good work and, naturally, the gap is a little larger. »

The Dutchman could secure an 8th victory at Silverstone this weekend, in the eleventh round of the world championship. In less than half a season, Max Verstappen already has an 81-point lead over his teammate and rival (figuratively speaking) for this season’s title.
