Mick Schumacher took the wheel of a McLaren
Mick Schumacher drove the 2021 McLaren at Portimao with novice mechanics and engineers from the team.

Mick Schumacher has been a reserve driver for Mercedes since last year, but he is also a reserve driver for the McLaren team. The son of the seven-time world champion has tested with the 2021 MCL35M.
The former Haas driver raced for the English team in Portugal. In Portimao, Mick Schumacher drove alongside McLaren apprentices and interns. The objective for mechanics and engineers was to create a trackside experience.
The German driver should resume driving during the season for free practice sessions with Mercedes and McLaren. The 24-year-old driver is under contract with German firm Mercedes and is not expected to race this season unless one of the regular drivers is unable to participate in a Grand Prix. Mick Schumacher works on the simulator during race weekends to assist the German team in optimizing the car’s settings.
Mick Schumacher is also the promotional driver for the Mercedes team. He is expected to drive his father’s 2011 W02 car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, from July 13th to 16th.
