Nigel Mansell reunites with his 1992 Williams at Silverstone
Nigel Mansell has once again stepped into the single-seater with which he became the world champion in 1992. The driver had this honor during a shoot for a documentary on his career.

On the occasion of a report that will be published on the British channel Sky Sport, Nigel Mansell made his return in his 1992 Williams. The Englishman won the Formula 1 World Championship that year with the same car that he is reuniting with 31 years later.
Coming back to his seat is an honor for the driver. « I just want to tell you how proud I am to be here and drive this car, it’s fantastic. All the memories come flooding back », said the former Williams driver.
Upon entering the car, Nigel Mansell realized the progress in safety that the teams have made. The cars back then did not have as significant a survival cell as today’s single-seaters. « I must say that coming back and sitting inside, you realize how much we were exposed to danger. I mean, when you think about the protection they have now, it’s completely different. »
The emotion of the 69-year-old driver was palpable as he returned to the team with which he won a world championship. Nigel Mansell still found comfort in the cockpit, (while) the seat is quite surprising, it is very pleasant and comfortable. The lower back is supported by the seat, which is nice, and the headrest is not too bad.
The engineers still had to remind the 1992 world champion of the procedure to follow for the driver to start his race car. A procedure that quickly came back to Nigel Mansell’s mind.
