Formula 1 wants to reward the sprint in a new way starting from 2024. « The upcoming season, just like this season, will have six races in sprint format, as validated in Baku. There will be six sprints, and I think we will announce them in September, as we have a Formula 1 Commission meeting scheduled for the Belgian Grand Prix weekend », says Stefano Domenicali in an exclusive interview with Autosport.

The Formula 1 president wants to reward the achievement of achieving both pole positions and winning both races in a single weekend. « There is a proposal that I would like to make, in line with the concept of the Grand Slam. It is that the drivers who secure both poles and both race victories should be recognized with something extra, which represents the sporting feat they have accomplished, » explains the Italian.

The idea of rewarding this Grand Slam will first be discussed with the teams to determine what the reward for the recipient could be. According to the president, this reward should not earn points but rather a trophy. It is worth noting that currently medals are awarded for victories in sprint races.

In addition to this likely reward, the boss of F1 also wants to discuss a change in the sprint race weekends. F1 could now conduct the race qualifying on Friday, run the sprint race on Saturday morning. The qualification for the main race should take place on Saturday afternoon.
