This weekend in Hungary, Daniel Ricciardo will take part in his first race of the season. The Australian replaces Nyck de Vries at AlphaTauri.

A return that marks the beginning of a new goal for Daniel Ricciardo, asserts Christian Horner. « For the moment, we have loaned him to AlphaTauri until the end of the year. Obviously, our drivers will be Max and Checo again next year. But it’s always good to have talent in reserve. I think Daniel firmly wants to position himself for the Red Bull seat in 2025. That’s his golden goal. And by going to AlphaTauri, I think he sees it as the best way to make his case for 2025 », stated the Red Bull team manager.

The Australian driver is returning to Red Bull after two difficult seasons at McLaren. It’s a comeback with a very different driver from the one who left in 2018. « I didn’t really recognize Daniel, over the past two years, the one we had sort of become accustomed to, who had grown with us », said the team manager on the F1 website.

Conclusive tests

The reserve driver secured his place after the [Pirelli tire tests](/f1/actualite/31032-red-bull-roule-ricciardo-tester-pneus-Pirelli-cette-semaine.html) that took place in Silverstone. What impressed me the most when I went to see the test is that, knowing that he hadn’t driven this car, that he hadn’t been in a car for seven months, by his third or fourth lap, he had a time that was less than a second off what our regular drivers were achieving, explained the head of the Red Bull team.
