Carlos Sainz finally ready to wait regarding his Ferrari contract
One of Carlos Sainz's priorities this season is to know what he will do after his contract with Ferrari expires after 2024. Will he stay with the Reds or leave? For now at Ferrari, it is not the time to negotiate contracts.

Carlos Sainz had declared it several weeks ago : he wants to know his future in Formula 1 as soon as possible, in order to avoid being in the unknown. But for now at Ferrari, it’s not the drivers’ contracts that are the priority, but rather the team’s recovery and return to victory. This is a trend that Sainz agrees with, but the 28-year-old Spanish driver still wants to be informed about his future as soon as possible.
(P) Personally, I agree with Fred. At Ferrari, there are much more important priorities than settling the future of its drivers, (F) said Sainz on the sidelines of the Hungarian Grand Prix. Indeed, Frédéric Vasseur, the boss of Ferrari, has already stated that the contracts of its drivers will be examined later in the year. The prancing horse is currently focused on its renewal : recruiting personnel and improving the car.
Carlos Sainz also mentions the complicated calendar that doesn’t necessarily allow for contract discussions. With double and triple header weekends, it’s difficult to find time to renegotiate a contract indeed. « With so many consecutive races, it’s not like you can stop for a minute and really think about your future, what you want to do, and what you see coming for yourself in the next two or three years. With so many consecutive races, it’s difficult », he declared. The Spaniard is well aware of it.
Carlos Sainz will still be considering his future
As he declared several weeks ago, Carlos Sainz wants to be the master of his own future and decide, if possible, this winter, at the end of the season, on his future destination. He might even start thinking about it as early as this summer during the break.
« I won’t lie, during the three-week break in August, I will start thinking about what would suit me, and then the winter break will be the time to start thinking about where I will race in 2025, » explained the Spaniard.
However, Sainz remains level-headed about the situation and he too wishes to see Ferrari back at the top like they were during several races in 2022, the year of his first Formula 1 victory incidentally, at Silverstone. Despite his desire to secure a new contract as soon as possible, he agrees with Frédéric Vasseur and believes that the priority for now is to focus on Ferrari and the performance of the car.
« But to come back to Fred, I completely agree because there are much more important priorities, much more important things that we need to address in the short term and that is also my priority, to be competitive with Ferrari not only this year but also next year – I still have a contract in place – and ensure that next year’s car is good and that it becomes better than the one we have now » concluded Carlos Sainz.
