Hamilton reacts to Nyck de Vries’ ouster
On the sidelines of the weekend in Hungary, Lewis Hamilton has reacted to the dismissal of Nyck de Vries by Red Bull. The seven-time world champion does not hesitate to support the Dutchman.

Lewis Hamilton didn’t fail to react to the dismissal of Nyck de Vries by Helmut Marko and Red Bull. The British driver regrets the way it was done but declares he is not surprised by Red Bull.
« I am truly surprised by the decision they made regarding poor Nyck. But he is such a talented boy, such a nice young man, so likeable as well, so I think the future is still bright for him. He will have plenty of great options in the future, » declared the Mercedes driver. Indeed, Formula E world champion in 2021, Nyck de Vries has talent and a return to this discipline is already anticipated for the Dutchman.
Lewis Hamilton, who knows Nyck de Vries quite well as he was the reserve driver for Mercedes, is saddened to see a friend leave Formula 1 in such a cruel way, without having had the full time to prove what he was capable of. « I am sad. I think it’s too tough for Nyck, but I am also happy to see Daniel back in the paddock. It’s part of Formula 1, but it’s true that it’s very tough for Nyck, » he said before concluding : « Unfortunately, his rookie season was quite short. That’s F1 sometimes, it’s very hard to live through. »
However, Lewis Hamilton doesn’t seem surprised by the functioning of the Austrian team. In fact, the Mercedes driver stated that it’s not the first time that Red Bull makes such decisions and they obviously follow their point of view, which is the best. That’s just how Red Bull operates. Many have suffered the same fate : Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, or even Daniil Kvyat. However, these drivers were demoted but didn’t leave the discipline, highlighting Red Bull’s inflexibility.
The drivers, not just Hamilton, have not hesitated to send support to Nyck de Vries during this difficult time. Charles Leclerc is one of them. The Monegasque driver says he sent a message of support to the Dutchman : « I don’t know, I think it’s obviously very difficult for Nyck. I sent him a message yesterday because I’m sure it’s tough ».
Let’s see where the future will lead Nyck de Vries. For now, a return to Formula E is favored.
