The Hungarian Grand Prix ended very quickly for the Alpine team. Just like his teammate, Pierre Gasly had to retire from the race in the first lap. The cars of the two French drivers were involved in a collision caused by Guanyu Zhou at the first corner, hitting Daniel Ricciardo who in turn sent the Alpines crashing into each other.

This is the third time this season that both cars are forced to retire in the same Grand Prix (Australia, Great Britain, and Hungary), and therefore the second consecutive time. A double retirement that comes just after the dismissal of Laurent Rossi as the head of the Alpine brand.

« We had a really good start, I didn’t have much space, I had to go through the grass, but I was well positioned for braking at turn 1. I don’t know if it was Zhou or Daniel who hit Esteban, who then ended up hitting me, and that’s what damaged our car. Things are just not going our way,” said the French driver after his retirement.

The Normand is already preparing for the next Grand Prix in Belgium. « Unfortunately, these are things that happen and we will have to focus on Spa and quickly put an end to this series of events that are happening to us at the moment. We need to keep working. Nobody is happy to be in these positions. We are all competitors, we all want to fight at the front, but for now we are not performing well enough, as we showed yesterday » continued the number 10 of the Franco-British team.

To fight at the front, the Alpine driver is aware that we need to find some performance to get out of this difficult situation. « We need to be able to find more performance. I think everyone is motivated and wants to break this streak, so we will focus on the last race before the break. I really hope to earn some points for the team because it’s truly unfortunate to have both cars stopped right from the first lap. »
