A new stable project is making waves
The 2026 grid will undergo many changes, especially among engine manufacturers. But on the Hong Kong side, they also express their interest in the premier category.

The Andretti-Cadillac adventure has caused a lot of ink to flow: the existing teams are reluctant to let a newcomer in, which shows the flip side of the coin regarding revenue distribution.
Andretti and Hitech GP are in the running to join Formula 1 in 2026. But Calvin Lo, a Hong Kong businessman, is also a candidate for entry.
The billionaire does not come with a hastily made project: the idea is to give momentum to the Asian market in Formula 1, just through his presence.
« In order for F1 to be global, it must not neglect this part of the world », states the broker from R.E. Lee International in a statement. « The sport has entered a whole new dynamic of popularity and a new generation of fans is emerging. There are still many opportunities to exploit in this discipline. »
A longtime enthusiast
Calvin Lo happens to be a big fan of Michael Schumacher, back when the legendary German was dominating Formula 1. And he is really fond of the modern face of the sport, for several reasons.
« What I love today is that F1 is not a one-man show,” asserts the 46-year-old man. « It’s a whole group of talented individuals united towards a single goal. »
His passion for F1 always makes him want to come to every Grand Prix. He has already been here in the VIP class in recent years. His intention, of course, is to boost Asia’s reputation, as there are two races scheduled (Japan and Singapore). But it is clear that a new team like his will have to have the means.
With Formula 1 afraid of losing its key players, new entrants will have to shell out a astronomical sum of 600 million dollars, three times more than the allocated capped budget.
The decision is already late for Andretti, even if Mohammed Ben Sulayem doesn’t want to close the door to a manufacturer like Cadillac. What would be Calvin Lo’s chances? It’s hard to say. The answers could come soon, once the details of the project (name, engine supplier, drivers) are clarified.
