Aston Martin does not want to make excuses for its lack of performance
In the face of Aston Martin's recent disappointing performances, its Team Principal Mike Krack does not want to find excuses and wants to move forward for the rest of the season.

Fernando Alonso hasn’t been on the podium since his second place finish in Canada. Granted, it has only been a few Grand Prix since then, but Aston Martin’s performance seems to have evaporated. The Silverstone team has completely dropped behind Mercedes and is also being caught up by Ferrari in the constructor championship. Several factors could explain this lack of performance, but the team principal, Mike Krack, doesn’t want any excuses.
No excuse
First, there could be the excuse of the tires. Indeed, new types of tires have been introduced at Silverstone, but Mike Krack refuses to take this as a factor to explain his team’s lack of performance. « It would be an easy excuse », he declared before continuing: « We see that there is a profound difference with these tires, but they were brought for safety reasons and so from their point of view, everyone has to use them. »
« It’s the same thing for everyone, so we shouldn’t use that as an excuse for competitiveness because they are the same tires we have to use in the future », concluded Mike Krack about the tires.
If it’s not the tires, others mention a slowdown due to the budget cap which would be at the origin of Aston Martin’s lack of competitiveness. Once again, the Luxembourgish Team Principal doesn’t want to use this excuse, which he also considers strange.
« Using the cost cap as an excuse to not make progress, I think at this stage of the season is a bit strange. That’s not the case for us », he said. No excuses, but action. Mike Krack wants to push for Aston Martin to return to the forefront and allow their drivers to compete for podium finishes.
A necessary development
Mike Krack is determined for Aston Martin to make a comeback and continue to fight for podiums as they did earlier in the year with Alonso. We will try to improve the car, understand its limits, work on it, and bring in parts and improvements for the upcoming races to fix them, he stated before specifying that it is very complex.
He highlights a complicated development where things never go in the right direction. « You always have side effects when making changes and you have to weigh what you use », he explained.
Moreover, the Team Principal of Aston Martin believes that the British team has not always made the right choice in its development, which may have put the team in difficulty. « For example, a part generates more downforce but has a different character, or vice versa, and we think that in one or two situations, we have not made the right choice », said Krack.
However, the Luxembourgish director is confident for the rest of the season and believes that Aston Martin can do much better to get back to the front and compete with the top teams. « We are very confident. It took us two weeks to identify and confirm the issues. But we are convinced that what we can do in the upcoming races will give us the improvements we need », he concluded.
There is one more Grand Prix this weekend in Belgium for Mike Krack’s team to turn things around before the summer break.
