Laurent Mekies is leaving Scuderia Ferrari as of this week
The sporting director is permanently leaving Ferrari as of this week, in anticipation of his new position as team principal at AlphaTauri next year. Laurent Mekies is being replaced by Diego Ioverno within the Scuderia.

It’s official: Laurent Mekies and Ferrari, it’s now in the past. The Scuderia announced on social media that the Frenchman will not be present in Spa as the sporting director, his former position, after four and a half seasons in which he held this role. The team has achieved seven victories during this period.
It is Italian Diego Ioverno who will take over this position, currently chief engineer and vehicle operations at Ferrari, where he has been working for 23 years. « Alongside his colleagues present on the pit wall, Matteo Togninalli, responsible for track engineering, and Ravon Jain, race strategist, he will directly report to team director Fred Vasseur », wrote Scuderia.
This announcement comes a few months after it was made public that Laurent Mekies would be leaving Ferrari to replace Franz Tost as team principal of AlphaTauri, with the Austrian leaving the team at the end of the season. It should also be noted that Peter Bayer, former executive director of Formula 1 at the FIA, has been appointed as the new CEO of AlphaTauri.
