Alan Permane, sporting director of Alpine, expresses his ambitions for the constructor’s ranking
Currently facing major difficulties, Alpine must bring a new floor this weekend in Belgium to improve performance. The sporting director of the French team, Alan Permane, is confident for the future and confirms Alpine's ambitions in the constructors' championship.

At Silverstone and Budapest, Alpine experienced two double retirements and is now considerably behind McLaren, which has made tremendous progress. However, as they arrive at Spa this weekend, there is hope: the French team is bringing a new floor that should greatly improve performance. For the rest of the season, Alpine is also confident and remains committed to its objectives.
« It’s important because we need to continue putting pressure on the car and moving forward and going faster, essentially. So, it’s very important. It’s not related to the front wing, but it’s a very important step for us,” said Alan Permane, who hopes that this development will help put Alpine back in the race for the constructors’ championship.
The sports director does not hesitate to congratulate McLaren for the tremendous gain in performance and intends to rely on what the Woking team has achieved to make progress with Alpine. « McLaren has done an incredible job. I take my hat off to them, honestly. It’s not normal to make such a big leap like that. But even so, they have done a great thing. Of course, we are looking at everyone, but we mainly focus on ourselves and our own model in the wind tunnel, and we bring improvements as quickly as possible », said Alan Permane.
Future developments for high ambitions
If Alpine plans to draw inspiration from McLaren’s immense work and hopes that its improvements will work in Belgium, the French team has already planned other evolutions for the second part of the season, in order to continue pushing to achieve the ultimate goal: challenging the leading teams.
« There is certainly a significant improvement for Singapore, but I think there will certainly be smaller things, for example in Monza », said the sporting director of Alpine. A source of comfort for Alpine supporters.
Alpine has always stated that its goal was the 4th place in the constructors’ championship. However, this position is currently occupied by Ferrari, who has a 120-point lead over Alpine. McLaren is also on the road, steadily improving. The task is going to be complicated for Alpine, but the 4th place is still the objective, reiterated Alan Permane: « “That’s our plan. And we will continue to develop as strongly as possible to try to achieve it.” »
In Belgium, Alpine will have to make their new floor work if the French team wants to aim higher. The first answers will come on Friday.
