Lewis Hamilton and the Silver Arrows are fighting for second place in the constructor’s championship. The Mercedes car has become competitive again after a disappointing 2022 season. The British driver is optimistic about achieving a good result in Belgium after securing pole position in Hungary.

« I think this leaves us optimistic. I think it was amazing to have this experience on Saturday. It shows that there is potential in the car and that everyone is working hard to bring performance. And I think our race pace was very good. We understood what the problem was at the beginning and we have some updates here this weekend. The weather is going to be interesting », explained the eight-time world champion in a press conference.

The performance wasn’t completely there at the beginning of the season for the Silver Arrows. But the German driver and team are working to improve the car.

« As a driver, you constantly struggle with the balance inconsistencies, but we are working hard to improve. We put in a lot of effort to analyze where we stand and what we can do to try and make those big strides that some of the others have made, like McLaren and Red Bull. There has been a lot of progress throughout the season so far, and I hope there will be many more in the second phase »,” continued the Mercedes driver.

Despite the improvements made to Lewis Hamilton and George Russell’s cars, the driver with 103 career wins doesn’t think he will win a Grand Prix this season. « For the moment, I’m not entirely sure that we can compete with them [Red Bull] on race pace. I think there were moments in the last race where Max was about eight tenths faster than everyone else on a single lap », concluded the 38-year-old man.
