The FIA is working to reduce the size and weight of the single-seaters for 2026
Denounced as factors that often hinder the spectacle on the track, the size and weight of Formula 1 cars are at the center of discussions for the 2026 regulations.

This Friday, July 28th, the third meeting of the Formula 1 Commission took place, which aims to discuss the future of the discipline and the potential changes to be made.
The FIA has declared that it is working tirelessly to address the oversized dimensions and excessive weight of Formula 1 cars. Several months ago, some drivers were complaining about these characteristics which hindered the spectacle and overtaking on narrow tracks, such as Monaco for example. The goal is to modify these characteristics for the new regulations in 2026.
The FIA clarified in a statement that the dialogue regarding the size and weight of the cars had progressed in the right direction, with the FOM and the Formula 1 teams.
« Significant progress has been made on this ongoing project, and the FIA is currently analyzing the most effective means to achieve a significant reduction in the size and weight of the cars, as well as improving energy management », according to the statement.
