Max Verstappen is still hungry for records in Formula 1

After his 45th career victory in Belgium, Max Verstappen wants even more as long as Red Bull is capable of breaking records. For now, nothing is pushing him outside of Formula 1.

Max Verstappen has repeatedly stated that he will likely not remain in Formula 1 indefinitely. He is still young and would like to test himself in other motorsport disciplines. However, at present, the Dutchman is contracted to Red Bull until 2028 and the performance of his race car motivates him to break all records.

« I really appreciate the moment but at the same time I know that it will end at some point, so we have to continue to learn and try to improve, and I’ll try to put it into practice again for the next race,” he told Sky Sports F1 after the Belgian Grand Prix. It’s hard to imagine how Red Bull could be disrupted in the coming years, given the exceptional level of the Austrian team since 2023.

« This keeps the fire going. If I have to struggle and have no chance of winning, the fire will start to go out » he continued, which coincides with his desire to look elsewhere when he feels his time in Formula 1 is over.

« It depends on what we do each year, but this year, it is magnificent. Next year is yet another completely different year » declared the two-time world champion, reminding that dominance in Formula 1 is never eternal. However, it can last for many years, just ask Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen, a steamroller

Last year, Verstappen was impressive, but in 2023, it’s something else entirely. With 10 wins in 12 Grand Prix races, he is crushing all the competition and leaving no crumbs behind. Sergio Pérez, his teammate, even appears as a second-tier driver in comparison. When he returns home to the Netherlands, he will attempt to equal Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive wins, and it’s hard to see how he wouldn’t succeed.

So if Verstappen is so strong, it may be thanks to his upbringing. « I know that the way I was raised has led me to always want more and to always pay attention to the details. Even when people say it’s great or incredible, there are always things that could be done better », he declared before continuing: « It’s not so much about learning about myself, I always want more and I try to look at every situation and what could have been done better ».

Max Verstappen is a true ogre who leaves no crumbs for anyone. Frustrating for drivers and surely for fans, but everyone is forced to savor what the Dutchman is achieving. Few drivers in the history of Formula 1 have been as impressive. A historic moment is unfolding before our eyes in 2023.

« What we are witnessing with Max at the moment is something we only see once in a generation,” concluded Christian Horner, and it’s hard to disagree.
