Alpine would like to become the French Ferrari
Luca Di Meo wants to make Alpine the French version of Ferrari. The executive director of Renault wants to create passion around the French-English team.

Alpine is struggling. The team is 6th in the constructor’s standings and has just fired its team principal, Otmar Szafnauer. The goals set by the Franco-British team are far from being on track.
The executive director of Renault, which owns the Alpine group, Luca de Meo, wants to make Alpine a team that arouses passion. « The Alpine Formula 1 team will become the French Ferrari, explained the director during a statement on Sky Sports F1.
Create a symbol
To ignite passion in France, greater efforts will be needed. There is still too little enthusiasm for the automotive industry. This is because fans do not have symbols to support, as is the case in Italy with Ferrari, explains Luca de Meo.
Last season, Alpine wanted to create a French F1 team by recruiting Pierre Gasly to become a teammate of the other Frenchman Esteban Ocon. The two Tricolores should generate more excitement for French supporters, as desired by the Renault executive director.
Telling a story
To obtain the passion of supporters, you have to tell a story, claims the Italian at the helm of the French group. Our goal is to associate Alpine’s colors with a feeling of passion, as we have done in the past. We want to link the team’s history and colors to the fans to create engagement.
The lack of passion for the French team can be explained by the lack of performance of their race cars. Alpine (formerly Renault) hasn’t competed for a title since 2006 with Fernando Alonso’s world championship victory.
