Formula 1 is getting ready to compete in two Grand Prix races in one week in Asia. This weekend is the Singapore Grand Prix followed by the one in Japan at Suzuka. Before starting the first practice sessions on the Marina Bay street circuit, Esteban Ocon commented on the challenging weekend he and his team had in Monza.

« It was a complicated week in Monza, on a circuit that was not favorable to the strengths of our package. We did not have a good qualifying session and unfortunately had to retire from the race as a precautionary measure after experiencing a steering wheel blockage. Since then, we have resumed work. We have analyzed the reasons for our performance deficit and have looked at the lessons we can learn from it for the upcoming events. »

With record humidity levels and stifling heat, the Singapore Grand Prix is undoubtedly the most physically demanding of the year. Drivers can lose up to three liters of sweat during the race, which requires significant preparation ahead of the weekend.

« I enjoy going to Singapore and feel comfortable driving there despite the unique challenges offered by this track. It is very physically demanding. In terms of preparation, I have focused on specific training. It involves acclimating my body to the hot and humid conditions. I am now fully prepared to tackle these two consecutive races in Asia and work alongside the team to achieve good results. »

Esteban Ocon will celebrate his 27th birthday on Sunday, race day. The Normandy native aims to seize every opportunity to treat himself to a nice birthday gift by achieving the best possible result.

« Unlike Monza, Marina Bay offers a slower and more winding track, making it very technical from a driving perspective. Furthermore, we know that an urban circuit like Singapore can provide opportunities to shine. We will try to maximize these chances to get back in the points and make my birthday even more special on Sunday! »

Ocon is currently 11th in the drivers’ championship with 36 points, one point and one position behind his Alpine teammate Pierre Gasly.
