Oscar Piastri: « Very happy with this first podium »
First podium for Oscar Piastri in Japan at the wheel of a highly performing McLaren at Suzuka.
Third in the Japanese Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri stepped onto the first podium of his Formula 1 career.
« This first podium is special. I want to thank the team for this. It’s incredible to have the opportunity to step on the podium in my very first season. »
Reflecting on his race, Piastri said he enjoyed his on-track battle with George Russell.
« It was a bit tight with George, but I managed a nice overtaking maneuver and enjoyed that moment. My pace was high. I am very happy and satisfied, even though I don’t think it was my best race of the year. »
With this result, the Australian driver takes advantage of it to gain two positions and surpass Lance Stroll and Pierre Gasly in the championship.
