Sergio Perez, the design of his helmet in the colors of Mexico revealed
On the occasion of his National Grand Prix, Sergio Perez will wear a helmet specially designed for this weekend. A helmet made by Karla Lozano, a 22-year-old Mexican student, who participated in the competition launched by the driver on social media. A colorful helmet, with various elements, which directly refer to Mexican culture.

This weekend will be the 24th Grand Prix of Mexico. An opportunity for Sergio Perez, who is struggling this season, but nevertheless second in the drivers’ standings, to return to his native country. For the occasion, Checo wanted to wear a special helmet, in the colors of his country.
A helmet designed by Karla Lozano, a 22-year-old student from San Nicolas de los Garza, in Monterrey, Mexico. A competition was launched to propose special helmets for the pilot. Her design was finally chosen, among those of a thousand participants shortlisted. « These include frets and Zapotec symbols, each with a meaning, such as protection, happiness, and work. The top of the helmet shows a Xoloitzcuintle in the center: a culturally important symbol in Mexico », explains Karla in an interview.
A colorful design, which represents a large part of the rich Mexican culture. Colors that directly refer to the alebrijes, multicolored sculptures, very popular in Mexico. At the top of the helmet, you can notably find a Xoloitzcuintle, a dog god of several thousand years, referring back to the time of the Aztecs.
A very important symbol in Mexico then, but which is also accompanied by grecas, the typical architecture of the Aztecs, as well as Zapotec symbols, another great ancient Mexican civilization. Finally, at the back of the helmet, you can find the Mexican pilot’s favorite phrase “Never Give Up”, placed beneath his number 11, and his initials.
