A Grand Prix to forget for Fernando Alonso. For the second consecutive time, the Spanish double world champion retired. This time, the Aston Martin driver lacked pace in the race, and a few laps later, Lance Stroll also retired for the same reason.

After the race, Alonso learned that he would have to pay a fine of 100€ to the FIA for speeding in the pit lane. The maximum speed in the pit lane in Mexico is limited to 80km/h, and Alonso was recorded at a speed of 80.1km/h.

In its post-race report, the FIA declares: “The car number 14 exceeded the pit lane speed limit, set at 80 km/h for this event, by 0.1 km/h. Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and Chapter 4 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Regulations, within the applicable deadlines. The competitor (Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant F1 Team) is fined €100.”
